The view from the aircraft window was spectacular. The snow packed mountain peaks glistened in the sunlight. The land of the long white cloud. Magic The lay over in wellington airport was enhanced by fabulous patisseries and macarons from Louis Sergeant Sweet Couture. The macarons reminded me of those we had eaten from Laduree on the Champs –Elysees in Paris – not too sweet and oh so perfect. Louis Sergeant Sweet Couture is a French patisserie in Wellington that is pure Parisienne. Run by two Frenchman they have really nailed the not overtly sweet treats. Our destination was Blenheim, a large wine district at the top of the South Island in New Zealand. Famous for their Sauvignon Blanc, this trip I was focusing on tasting and buying as many Botrytis wines as I could pack in my already over stuffed bag! There is over twenty thousand hectares of grapes which is approximately 2/3 of New Zealand’s wine plantings. Seriously curbed by Paul’s broken collarbone we had to forgo our usual cycling and hiking we focused on a few of the main wineries: Rock Ferry Wines beautiful food. Arriving with a broken collar bone and a new baby meant that we got amazing service. They made room for the pram and even offered to cut up Paul’s meals so that he could eat it with one hand. I was the only one who was tasting ones so they let me www.rockferry.co.nz Wither hills winery it was quite a cold crisp day so it was lovely to head into the winery which is very large and head over to the open fire. driving into the winery 20160818 Blenheim New Zealand Peace and tranquillity wither hills Farmland river Vineyards Family Friends is it a good idea to travel to Blenheim in winter? yes! It’s A beautiful part of new Zealand even in the winter.. Are open all the wineries are open and many of them have Open fireplaces which added to the experience sipping Beautiful wines while relaxing in the Warmth.     arriving into blenheim on a Cold sunny day has its own charm. this is a classic New Zealand with The narrow roads over shingle rivers with Aqua Blue water. There is always a view of the mountains or in this case the wither Hills grace every horizon .. we were blessed to also to get snow on the Horizon.   we chose to stay at St Leonards you vineyard cottages. Set on 4.5 acres there is five self contain cottages with breakfast included. A Nice Touch is the Home made Jams.
